Obituary of Robert Edward Moore

Robert Edward “Bob” Moore died quietly surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters on April 8, 2018 in Columbia, SC at the age of 79. He felt particular delight in his beautiful daughters, their wonderful husbands and much-beloved grandchildren. Bob is survived by wife, Mason, of Bowman, SC; daughters Anne Hayslip (Carson) of Columbia, SC and Langley Meredith (Conner) of Savannah, GA; and grandchildren Scott Hayslip, Jr. (Daniele) of Rock Hill, SC, Robert Hayslip of Austin, TX, Will Hayslip of Georgetown, SC, and Amy Hayslip of Columbia, SC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Vernon Moore, Sr. and Minnie Langley Moore of Conway, SC and his brother, Ralph Vernon Moore, Jr. of Miami, FL. Bob was born on May 21, 1938, in Conway, SC to Ralph and Minnie Moore. He graduated from the College of Charleston (where he was a member of ATO fraternity) with a degree in History. He maintained a lifelong interest in history and antiques, particularly those of the South, and continued to read and build his library on those subjects. He married Mason Bridges, his wife of fifty-four years, in 1963. After moving to Beaufort, SC, Bob worked for the Beaufort County school system throughout the 1960’s as a history teacher and assistant principal. In the 1970’s, Bob was a real estate broker in Charleston, Georgetown, and Horry Counties. Following that, he owned and ran The Golf Shop in North Myrtle Beach and Santee for thirty-six years. Family friend Harriette Dodd remembers him as “a quiet, gentle person, a gentleman of the South.” A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, April 23 at 2 PM at Prince Frederick Episcopal Church ruins at 9769 Plantersville Road, Georgetown, SC. This location was particularly important to Bob, as he associated it with his treasured memories of duck-hunting nearby with his father as a young man. A gathering will follow at 409 Rosemary Street, Georgetown, SC and all are warmly invited. Father Charles Smith will officiate at the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Pets for Vets at PO Box 10860, Wilmington, NC 28404 or Boys Farm at PO Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108.
