Obituary of Mary Francis Chavis Wetherell

Mary Francis Chavis Wetherell went home to be with our Lord August 22nd, 2021.   She was born 94 years ago in Neeses, SC to Rev. Lucius and Lou Belle Chavis.  Mary was married to her devoted husband, Paul Wetherell from January 1951 until his passing in December 2009. 

Beginning in the 1960’s, Mary was a pioneering entrepreneur owning several fabric stores in the Columbia area.  Mary was known as a shop owner that always gave the “extra measure” and was an accomplished seamstress and sewing teacher.  She was a devoted church member throughout her life.  Mary spent her final years at her country home in Chapin, SC.  Thank you to the outstanding staff at Presbyterian Community Lexington for their love and outstanding care for Mary in her final weeks.

Mary is survived by her children - Brenda Johnson, Billie Still and Stan Wetherell; grandchildren – Lynn Currie, Angela Craig, Troy Jeffcoat, Crystal Jeffcoat, Elaine Redmond, Ashley Blanchard, Sarah Wetherell, Casey Wetherell; great-grandchildren – Brandon Currie, Colby Redmond, Tyler Redmond, Ethan Redmond, Taylor Jeffcoat, Abigail Craig, Cameron Craig, Emily Blanchard, Luke Jeffcoat, Emma Durant; great-great grandchild Karsen Craig; sisters - Shirley LaCons, Elaine Borecki, Jackie Johnson, and brother Bobby Chavis.  Mary was predeceased by her parents, husband Paul, four brothers, and four sisters. 

Her family will receive friends and family at a memorial service to be held at First Church of the Nazarene, Kay Street, Columbia, SC at 4pm August 31, 2021.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Church of the Nazarene Missions.
