Obituary of Julie Harden

Julie Harden, 74, of Irmo passed away July 20, 2021. Born April 9, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Byrd Harden and Halley Fennell Harden.

Julie’s career started at the University of South Carolina as a Veterans Affairs Coordinator, then onto the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education Veteran’s Education Division. Her last role was with the Federal Government Department of Veterans Affairs as an Education Liaison Representative. She was passionate in her work for Veterans and loved the Military. In her spare time, she was a guide with the Olympia-Granby Mill Village Museum and volunteered for the Historical Society. She was involved with various groups at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, sang in their choir and loved spending time with her grandchildren and grand dogs. Julie also enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include son, Cliff Johnson of Columbia, SC, daughter, Stephanie Volpe and son-in law, Dominic Volpe of Summerville, SC, grandchildren; Alexis and Halley Volpe. Julie is also survived by her brother, Dr. Richard R. Harden and sister-in-law, Beth Harden of Newnan, GA.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC 29212, July 31st, 2021, at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julie’s memory to a Veterans Charity of choice.
