Jerrye McElwee

Obituary of Jerrye Ann McElwee

Jerrye Ann McElwee passed away on Sunday, April 8th, after a prolonged illness. Jerrye was born on October 25th, 1939, to Sara and Wesley E. McElwee in Rock Hill, SC. Retiring as Branch Office Administrator with Edward Jones in 2007, Jerrye’s true joy was her family and creating a home to celebrate holidays and family milestones. She was a fabulous cook and her home was always a warm and inviting space. Jerrye enlivened any conversation with candor and a hearty laugh. She was sharp and sensitive, a steel magnolia who did not tolerate unfairness to others. She was brave and unyielding as she overcame many hardships throughout her life; but Jerrye’s courage was unmatched by her love for her children. Left to celebrate her memory and carry on what she taught them are Geoffrey Williams, her husband for nearly 36 years, her daughter Terrye (Tim) Conroy, and son Phil (Wendy) McKenzie; her grandchildren Phillip (Lindsay) Weathers, Jack, Owen, and Henry McKenzie; and great grandson Jackson Weathers. She was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Lamb. Our family is forever indebted and thankful to the community of friends and loved ones who have supported us. We also honor and appreciate the caregivers who were devoted to Jerrye, especially Charlotte, Eva, Ms. Green, Chat, Alyssa, and Marquette. We sincerely thank Palmetto Health Palmetto Senior Care PACE (Alli, Cindy, Karen, Connie, Dr. Wilson, and the rest of the Laurel St. team). In accordance with her wishes, a memorial service will not be held. Jerrye was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the works of Pat Conroy. The family welcomes memorials in her name to The Pat Conroy Literary Center @ http://patconroyliterarycenter.org/ . South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family.
