Obituary of Linda L. Callahan

Linda L. Callahan, formerly of Irmo, SC, left us on January 23, 2021, after fighting COPD and Dystonia for many years. Following a short time in home hospice under Heart of Hospice, Columbia, she passed away peacefully in her sleep with family surrounding her.

She was born on September 4, 1949, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to Stanley and Mary Frances (Mills) Woodward. Linda was the second eldest of five siblings, growing up in an Army family and spending much of her childhood at various military installations in the United States and Germany. She graduated from Valley High School, Valley Station, Ky, a suburb of Louisville.

She is the first of her siblings to leave this world and is survived by brothers Gary Woodward, Robbie Woodward and Doug Woodward, as well as her sister Karen Bennett, all of whom still reside in the greater Louisville area.

Linda and Tim shared fifty great years together; she is survived by her husband Timothy J. Callahan, daughter Mary Beth Shah of Irmo, SC, daughter Tammy Leigh Derrick of Ada, Michigan, and son Timothy Guy Callahan of Huntly, Virginia. Beth is married to Gopi Shah, Tammy is married to William Derrick, and Guy is married to Aubrey Poe.

Linda leaves behind six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The grandchildren are Beth’s children Michaela Bradley, Sadie Bradley, Callahan Bradley and Levin Shah; and Tammy’s children Tripp and Lynlee Derrick.

When we lost Linda, we lost a lot – a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. We also lost her charm, wit, artistic talent, friendship, directness, laughter and kindness. What many have commented on throughout the years was her sparkling eyes and infectious smile. We are certain that she is smiling down upon us now.

In keeping with Linda’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. We will be planning a celebration of her life for June 20th, the Summer Solstice. We all know how Linda loved her summers. More information will be provided as plans are finalized.
