Obituary of Paul L Stillson

Paul L. Stillson, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, following a lengthy illness.

Paul was a Charter and Lifetime Member of the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department, having attained the level of Assistant Chief. His service to that department was a source of lifelong pride for him. He was also privileged to serve on several paid firefighting departments in the Indian Head, Maryland area. The remainder of Paul’s career was spent in property management.

Paul met and married his wife, Susan, in Jacksonville, Florida. Together they shared love, laughter, adventures, sorrows and celebrations for over 42 years.

Paul will be remembered for his love of the Lord and his family, and especially for the twinkle in his eye and the kindness he showed others. He entertained countless children throughout his life, whether sitting in as Santa or making a “talking” rabbit with a kitchen towel.

Paul was predeceased by his father Peter, mother Evelyn, his sister Marion Kellam and his stepson Daniel Barnes. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his stepson J. Douglas “Doug” Barnes of Jacksonville, granddaughter Shelby Barnes, brother Leonard “Pete” Stillson of Grant, Alabama, and sisters Catherine “Kay” Claggett of Indian Head and Nancy Downing (Rick) of Norfolk, Virginia.

Family and friends will gather in celebration of Paul’s life at his home on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Graveside service and interment will take place at a later date at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville. With grateful hearts Paul’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Agape Care Hospice for the loving care they provided to our dear Paul as well as to the family.
