Obituary of Dora Grace Pierce

Dora Grace-Pierce passed away January 2, 2021. She left us while in the hospital and with her oldest daughter by her side. She was born in Newark NJ to Gordon Grace Sr. and Mary King-Grace.

Dora was a straight A student and early in life pursued her dream of being a registered nurse. She witnessed incredible changes to her world, from segregation, racial riots of Newark, New Jersey to witnessing our first African American president.

Dora was the beloved mother of Lisa Robinson, Monica Marrow and Jeaneen Hudson. Her four grandchildren who she was Nana and grandma to and spoiled rotten Andrew Rowland III, Dora-Ashley Rowland, Skyler Grace Hudson, Vincent Hudson Jr. And one niece, Sabrina Grace.

Dora was a great mom, loving and she worked hard to give her daughters the best life. She instilled integrity and always told us to behave as beautiful young ladies as well as to take pride in ourselves. She loved art, crafts and decorating which made our home warm an inviting. Growing up our home served as the hub for all our friends to hang out. She loved having people around, helping and service came from her heart. Her sample and hearty laughter was infectious which made her that much more a beautiful person. Dora loved God and was a long-time member of the New York City Church of Christ, until 1994 when she relocated to Columbia SC becoming a member of the Columbia Church of Christ. She loved educating and was a proud and very professional R.N until she retired from nursing at the SC Department of Mental Health. She had many friends who loved her.

One of her many quotes was “sometimes God picks the best flowers early” And to those who loved her, she was one of those flowers. Dora’s beautiful spirit shall remain with us as we love and honor her forever more.
