Obituary of Charles William Neeley

Charles William Neeley of Summerton South Carolina died Tuesday morning November 24, 2020 after a long battle with heart disease and lung complications at Columbia Community Hospice House, Agape Care. Our family wants to thank them for their kindness and care.

Mr. Neeley was a native of Lee County Mississippi and was the son of the late Alexander Buckner Neeley, Sr. and Myrtle Lessie Ozell Ryan Neeley. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Louise Neeley Wesson, brothers, Alexander Buckner, Jr, James Edward Neeley Sr. and grandson, Alex Taylor Darnell.

He was a graduate of Saltillo High School and attended college while serving in the Air Force and obtained credits through the Community College of the Air Force. A proud Vietnam veteran, he served first in the Mississippi Army National Guard and then transferred to the United States Air Force from which he eventually retired after over 20 years as a Master Sergeant in 1972.  After that he continued to serve with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Mason. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked and then retired from General Electric in Greenville South Carolina after 10 years and was then self-employed for many years.

He married the former Johnnie Mae Owens. Surviving relatives include his sisters, Christine Neeley McCarver and Arlene Neeley Grissom as well as his children and spouses William M. Neeley (Robin) Marsha Neeley Warren (Mark), Cynthia Neeley Cable (Kenny), Andrea Neeley Wooten (Randy) and 5 grand-children and 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His hobbies included camping, fishing, reading and tinkering with electronic gadgets. He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor, generosity and strength.

At his request, there will not be any formal service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
