Obituary of Roger Allen Wentworth

It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Allen Wentworth announces his passing on August 16, 2020. He was born on September 7, 1948 in Argentia, Newfoundland, where his father was serving in the Navy. He was the son of William and Helen Wentworth, brother to Scott Wentworth and Bonnie Rice.

He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, and holds a B.A. and an M.A. in History. He served as an air traffic controller in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Roger was a member of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society where he was world renowned for this naval cachet artwork, which showcased his favorite U.S. President, Theodore Roosevelt, as well as mermaids, naval and maritime covers. His artwork is on display in post offices and on naval ships around the world and is collected by retired servicemen and historians. Roger was also a dedicated stamp collector and member of the American Philatelic Society.

Roger was also a dedicated animal rights activist. He spent many years volunteering for the Humane Society and animal shelters, as well as caring for his beloved cats.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashley and sister, Bonnie. The family extends many thanks to the staff of the South Carolina Cremation Society for their care and compassion.
