Of Rose Mary’s seemingly endless stream flowing in and out of Enoree over the years of cousins, other family members, old friends who “may as well be family - we’ve known them that long” and the extended family of more recent friends and hangers-on like me, simply trying to take it all in, Barbara stood out in a crowded field. After Rose Mary and Frankie, I believe I spent the most time talking with Barbara. She entertained me, advised me, fed me, taught me, lectured me and likely prayed for me. She even loved me, I imagine. I’ve spent hours on the porch with Barbara, and we sat together at mealtime and funerals. A carousel of characters have come through Enoree over the years I’ve been lucky enough to be invited in. And no painted pony on that carousel stands out more than Barbara. The peace of Christ be with you, Barbara. It’s not goodbye. Only “So long, for now.”
