Obituary of Lawrence Michael Murphy

LAWRENCE MICHAEL “MURPH” MURPHY

Lawrence Michael “Murph” Murphy, 62, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020 in West Columbia, SC. The son of the late Earl Augustine and Annie Coker Murphy. Murph was known for his big personality, never meeting a stranger and his amazing ability to paint a picture while acting out all the characters when telling a story. He had a deep love for his family, making people laugh, all things trivia and his Irish heritage. Surviving are his daughters, Ashley (Bobby) Coker and Danielle (Kevin) Myers; granddaughter, Carmela; sisters Mary Saum and Theresa (Earl) Hunter; nephew, Mark Gentry as well as many other nieces and nephews. Murph was predeceased by siblings, Earl Murphy, Anne Gentry and Frances Davis. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 28 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the home of Bobby and Ashley Coker, 2657 Watson Street, Elgin, SC 29045. A mass will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 10:00 am at The Basilica of Saint Peters, 1529 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Murph’s memory to Town Theatre.
