Obituary of Russell J. Schieder, Jr.

Russell Schieder, age 78, a resident of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away February 24, 2024, with his loving children by his side.  

Russell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Russell Schieder Sr. and Eleanor Boswell (Gaw). Russell was affectionately referred to as “Rusty” or “Russ” by close family and friends. Russ was a graduate of Father Judge High School and also proudly served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Russ led a very successful career in the insurance sector, working as a Senior Brokerage Account Executive for PMA, followed by time with Chris Miller Agency, and later Nationwide.

Russ was an avid sports fan, he would watch nearly every Philadelphia Eagles’ and Phillies’ games, and he loved cheering on the Gamecock football and women’s basketball teams. He loved Corvettes and was very proud of his collection of pace cars. Russ was also an animal lover and would frequently feed any neighborhood squirrels and birds when he wasn’t caring for his own cat, Tuli. Russ was very outgoing, making a friend nearly everywhere he went. He always wanted the best for his family and friends, and to know that everyone was happy and doing well.

Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Verdon Schieder, daughter, Megan Schieder, and brother, George “Skip” Schieder. Russ is survived by his children; Kimberley Schieder Masciotro (John), Kevin Schieder (Tina), and Nicole Bruno (Matthew), his granddaughters, Bridget and Kelly Schieder, and countless friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held by his children at a later time.
