Obituary of William McElveen, Jr.

William “Gary” McElveen, Jr, 39, of Chapin, SC passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

Gary was born on May 31, 1982 in Columbia, SC to William Gary McElveen and Christine Ingram McElveen. Gary grew up in Chapin, SC and attended Chapin High School. After high school, he worked in the Durable Medical Equipment field. In 2011, he had a spinal cord injury, which left him paralyzed and unable to care for himself. Since this time, his devoted mother and many caretakers took special care of him at home.

Gary was an avid Gamecock fan and loved spending time with his family and friends. Most of all Gary enjoyed spending time with and having nightly conversations with his youngest daughter, Hailey.

Gary was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Taylor, his father, William Gary McElveen, Sr of Chapin, SC, is paternal grandparents, William O and Dorothy McElveen of Columbia, SC, his maternal grandfather, Lamar W. Ingram, Jr of Columbia, SC.

Gary is survived by his daughters, Grayson of Columbia, SC and Hailey of Charleston, SC. His mother, Christine Ingram McElveen of Chapin, SC, grandmother, Jean Ingram of Columbia, SC, sister, Mandy Miller (Chuck) of Chapin, SC, niece, Ashley Miller and nephew, Wilkes Miller of Chapin, SC. Aunts, Jody Davidson, Kathy Robinson and Jeanne Trussell (Tony) of Chapin, SC as well as many cousins.

Memorials may be made to Camp Cole, 1571 Crossing Creek Road, Eastover, SC 29044

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
