Obituary of Nina Elizabeth Gray

Nina Elizabeth Gray, born Nina Elizabeth Gornto on July 13, 1953, in N Myrtle Beach, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Nina, known for her artistic and unique personality, will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. 

Nina was an intelligent and eclectic individual who had a deep appreciation for the arts. She had a passion for music, movies, and literature, which enriched her life and brought her immense joy. Her love for nature was evident in her hobbies, including painting, drawing, writing, gardening, and outdoor walking. Nina found solace in the beauty of the outdoors and took great pleasure in observing wildlife.

In her professional life, Nina excelled as a Master Gardener. Her expertise in gardening allowed her to create vibrant and flourishing landscapes, bringing beauty to those around her. She was admired for her knowledge and dedication to her craft. 

Nina's legacy extends beyond her career and hobbies. She leaves behind a loving family, including her son, Benjamin D. Gray and his wife, Lisa Gray, along with their children, Andrew and Nathan Gray. Her son, Daniel A. Grubbs and his wife, Kaley Longshore, along with their children, Judith and Iris Grubbs. Additionally, her son, Larry Grubbs and his wife, Rebecca Grubbs, along with their children, Harley, Kelly, and Summer Grubbs. Also, her daughter, Jennifer Johnson. Nina is also survived by her sister-in-law, Karen Sundstrom, nephew, Mehmet Ulgen, great niece, Sungu Ulgen, niece, Nikki Martinez, and great niece and nephews, Trinity and Seth Martinez. Nina is also survived by her special furry friends, a cat named Abby and dog named 'Coco' whom she loved dearly. 

Nina was preceded in death by her mother, Nina Bussey, her father, Rodney Gornto, her sister, Judith Ulgen and nephew, Semih Ulgen, and her brother, Rodney 'Bert' Gornto as well as many special pets over the years. Their memories will now be reunited with Nina's. 

A celebration of Nina's life will be held on February 25, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at The Irmo Community Park, Shelter 1 ‘The Magnolia’, 7507 Eastview Drive, Irmo, SC 29063. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their stories and memories of Nina during this time. 

In honor of Nina's love for nature and wildlife, contributions can be made to the National Wildlife Federation or The Arbor Society. These organizations continue to preserve and protect the natural world that Nina held dear to her heart. 

Nina Elizabeth Gray will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her artistic spirit, intelligence, and love for nature will forever be remembered and cherished. May she rest in eternal peace.
