Obituary of Anita Miscala Fields

In Loving Memory of Anita Miscala Fields

Anita Miscala Fields, 73, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Born in Cebu City, Philippines, on August 19, 1950, to Doris Miscala, and preceded in death by her late husband, Ronald Fields. Anita is survived by her daughters, Ruth Paninsoro (Avelino) and Dina O’Herin (Seth), along with her adored grandson, Emmett Levi O’Herin.

Anita attended Abellana National High School and Colegio de San Jose - Recoletos in Cebu City, Philippines. She met her future husband, Ronald while he was assigned to the Naval Station at Subic Bay, RP.  He then relocated to Columbia, SC in 1988 where they made their permanent home.

Anita was a roamer at heart. She liked to move around and travel whether it was visiting her hometown in the Philippines, attending her ladies Bible study group, shopping and eating out, or taking a trip to the mountains and beach. She liked being close to nature because it brought her comfort. Growing up in a small town in Cebu and visiting the province during the summer months and Fiestas, she appreciated the little things in life that meant the most to her, which is family. Her spirit shined brightest when she was around relatives, and dear friends.

In June of 2022, Anita was diagnosed with Stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer. It was a shock to all but she underwent chemotherapy treatments to try to fight it. A year of chemo, CT scans, doctor's visits, ER visits, hospital admissions, multiple IV sticks and other procedures and specialists were made. Anita fought the biggest battle of her life by pushing through with faith, resilience, and a strong will to survive. With those things, she was able to buy some time in this world, even for a little while. Her last days were spent in her warm bed at home with her daughters, Seth, and Emmett.

Beyond her fondness for adventure, Anita's legacy is one of a giving heart for those she loved, laughter and cries for life's sense of humor, and an unwavering commitment to finding joy in every circumstance.
