Obituary of Robert F. Holland

Robert F. Holland, affectionately known as Red or Mr. Bob, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024 at his home in Columbia, SC. Bob was born in Atlanta, GA on January 25, 1921 and later moved to Coral Gables, FL. He graduated from Ponce de Leon High School and then joined the Navy to fight in WWII. After the war, Bob went on to receive his BA from the University of Miami – a proud “Hurricane” and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

After college, Bob married Nat (along with her two daughters). They went on to have one more daughter. Bob took care of and helped raise all three girls. In his work life, Bob was a salesman. He was transferred to Columbia, SC in the mid-fifties where he lived the rest of his life.

Once in Columbia, Bob was an active member of Shandon United Methodist Church the rest of his life and was known and loved by the members there. He was also an active member of the Eastern Columbia Lion’s Club, as well as a past president.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Nathalie Lowe Holland, and his daughter, Carol Holland Martin. He is leaving behind his daughters, Sharon Skagseth Heinz, Bobbie Holland Moore (Michael), grandchildren, Ashley Grugan Morris and Joseph Ferris Grugan (Shana), and great-grandchildren, Mary Sloan Fravel (Kile), Caroline Elizabeth Morris, Sarah Grace Morris, Mildred Ballew Grugan and Joseph McCall Grugan.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205 with visitation afterward. Memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church.
