Obituary of John Charles Darr

John Charles Darr passed peacefully at his home in Chapin on Thursday morning, January 11, 2024. The son of the late Robert Alexander Darr and Dorcus Goodman Darr, and brother of late sister Reba Ann Darr. John had been under hospice care since December 27, 2023.

John is survived by his loving wife, Ann, sister, Loretta Stephenson, brother, Robert Alva Darr (Beth), sister, Dr. Ruth Snow (David), along with twelve nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews, and thirteen great-great nieces and nephews.

John aka Uncle John aka JD was considered one of the better Harley mechanics in the area, operating the 76 Cycle shop for more than 25 years. His high acumen for mechanical design and repair led John to have a successful Harley Davidson repair shop with many loyal customers. He was loved and adored by his family and loved by his close friends. His desire for adventure led him on many memorable motorcycle journeys across the United States with his closest friends and family. His riding companions felt the added security of having a "professional repair shop" traveling alongside for any unexpected issues or breakdowns.

John had a gift for speaking wise, thought-provoking statements that often left an impact on those around him. A man of wisdom and experience, it was an honor for him to bestow a bit of advice or analysis of a situation upon those needing comfort. A man of compassion, he was raised to do the right thing by Robert and Dorcus, and you could rest assured that JD would "do the right thing". He had the ability to always see the bright side of things, having a glass half full rather than half empty. His ability to laugh and inspire laughter would always result in John being surrounded by smiling faces. If John felt like you understood who he was, you were allowed into his inner sanctum, privy to his best bits of wisdom.

John and Ann were married in 1996 at a special wedding in Key West, FL. John was blessed by finding the “Love of his life" when he met Ann. The couple lived in Chapin, SC, close to his 76 Cycle Shop. They shared a wonderful life together enduring various health related situations including a liver transplant that John survived from for over 20 years. He was saying how grateful he was for having Ann as his wife and caretaker and friend up until the final days of his life. John professed that their once in a lifetime love affair was the best part of his life.
