Obituary of Lora Jean Derrick

Lora Jean Derrick passed away peacefully in her home on January 5, 2024.

Jean, as everyone called her, was born in Columbia SC on February 12, 1944 to Luther E. Dinkins and Jessie Dinkins. Jean married Robert Lee Hammond in August 1961. They had three children and moved to Gilbert SC in 1976 where they raised their children and put them through Gilbert schools. Unfortunately, after 28 years of marriage, Robert passed away on May 9, 1989. Jean remarried in 1991 to Carl Eugene Derrick and began their life together. They were married for 32 years until Jean’s passing.

Jean was an incredible soul with an infectious smile that could light up any room.

Jean is pre-deceased by her parents, Luther and Jessie Dinkins, and first husband, Robert Lee Hammond. She is survived by her husband, Carl Eugene Derrick, sisters: Dorothy Maher, and Tawanna Bonnet, as well as her children: Robert (Lisa) Hammond, Christopher (Karen) Hammond, and Diana Mills. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Maria, John, Shawn, Travis, Earl and Brooke, and great-grandchildren Aurora, Brittany, Briana, Colton, and Amelia, and great-great-granchildren, Laelynn, Landon, Soren, and Aiden. She will be greatly missed.
