Obituary of Brenda Kennerly

The world became a little darker on November 1, 2023, when Brenda Kennerly passed away on her 61st birthday after a long battle with cancer. Brenda was known for her enormously kind heart and generous spirit, as well as her wry sense of humor. She gave absolutely legendary bear hugs, and made the best pound cake in the south.

Brenda graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1979. She received her Associates Degree in Computer Technology from Midlands Tech in 1998 and had a successful career as an analyst and account manager working for the SC Department of Natural Resources and Acadia Solutions, among other organizations. In 2009, Brenda began working for Pearson, Inc. as a Project Manager. After achieving her PMP certification, she took on the fulfilling role of mentoring her colleagues and assisting others in attaining their certifications as well. Brenda’s years with Pearson were the most rewarding of her career, and she formed lasting relationships with her colleagues based on mutual respect and admiration.

Brenda was a unique soul with many varied interests. One of the pursuits closest to her heart was animal care and rescue. She was an active member of the Pointer Rescue Organization and helped to transport dogs from rescue organizations to their adoptive families. Another passion of Brenda’s was USC Women’s Basketball; she was a season ticket holder for 5 years and loved supporting the team to victory. Brenda had a great appreciation for music, and held a subscription to see Broadway shows on tour in Charlotte.

Brenda is survived by her wife, Debbie Wooster; mother, Jackie Kennerly; brother, Frank Kennerly (Dan Hamilton); brother-in-law, Roy Wooster; four-legged family, Star. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Kennerly.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 735 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC 29036.
