Obituary of Carmelle Watkins Finley

Carmelle Watkins Finley passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2023 at the age of 96. She loved reading, watching Lifetime movies, sweets, rocking babies, speaking her mind, and a good card game.

Carmelle was born on October 4, 1926 to her parents, Robert and Carrie Watkins in Raleigh, North Carolina. Carmelle was one of twelve children and has always enjoyed family. Carmelle graduated from Nursing School at James Walker Memorial Hospital (Wilmington, NC) in 1948 and practiced as an Operating Room nurse.

On November 5, 1948, Carmelle wed Joseph LeRoy Finley. Carmelle and Joe went on to have three children, David, Ann, and Ruth, and resided in Simpsonville, SC.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carmelle also loved reading, going to church and listening to sermons, volunteering at the local library, going to the beach, and most of all spending time with family. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

Carmelle was predeceased by her husband, Joe, parents, Robert and Carrie, her daughter, Ann, her grandson, Brock, and siblings, Howard, Merrell, Thomas, Cleta, Evelyn, RO, Bernice, Dorothy, Carl, Marvin, and Johnnie in Heaven. She is survived by her children, David (Kay), Ruth, her grandchildren, Rob (Colleen), Rebekah (Justin), Joseph (Allison), Lydia, Samuel (Sarah), William, John, and great-grandchildren, Katy, Matthew, and Bridger.

Service will be Aug 5, 2023 at Graceland East Cemetery, Greenville SC for family and close friends.
