Michael F. Vigil Obituary
April 25th, 1938 – June 1st, 2023
Michael F. Vigil (a.k.a. Mike, Mickey, Dad, Pop, Coach) 85, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 1st, 2023, in Columbia, SC. He was born on April 25th, 1938, in Woodstown, NJ to Marie "Muzzie" Shearer and Francisco "Bito" Vigil. Mike was a devoted husband to his wife Susan K. Vigil and a loving father to his three children, Scott Vigil, wife Stephanie, Kirk Vigil, wife Kim and Kristy Vigil Fitzgerald, husband Mark. Mike was a doting grandfather to his grandchildren Taylor and Alec Vigil, Vincent and Danielle Bianchi, Brooke, Peyton and Austin Fitzgerald, Jessica Heron, and Raygen Wells, as well as his great-grandchildren Lucas and Teagan Henderson.
Mike was a Christian leader and a servant to his family, friends, and co-workers. He was a man of exceptional kindness, awareness of others' feelings, and generosity. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garden or anywhere there were plants and trees he could grow. He also took great interest in studying genealogy and his own family’s history as well as collecting fine gems and precious metals. His keen interest in horticulture, gemology, and numismatics was similar to his interest in people. He always wanted to know where someone was from and their cultural background, so he could better understand how all of us fit together in God's world. He was a member and volunteer within the Tres Dias community both in NJ and PA, spending much of his time serving people for Christ. Mike worshipped with his wife Sue and family at Jacksonville Chapel in NJ and Faith Church in PA.
Mike served in the United States Army after the Korean War from 1956 to 1959. He was a Bachelor of Science graduate from Seton Hall University and a Master of Business/Marketing graduate from Drew University in NJ. His career spanned several industries, including Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals, Con Air Consumer Products Corporation, InterGold Corporation, A Choice Nanny Corporation, and Equitable Life Assurance Company. In every endeavor, he was a leader in Marketing and Business Development.
A Celebration of His Life will be held this fall in New Jersey. Family and friends will be notified and all are welcome to help celebrate.
