Obituary of Denzil Ray Patterson

Mr. Denzil Ray Patterson, 49, of Swansea, South Carolina, peacefully entered into rest on June 7, 2023.

He was born on July 19, 1973, in Elkins, West Virginia. He was the youngest son of the late Roy Franklin Patterson and Gladys Helen Patterson (Brown).

Denzil will be remembered by his sons, Jordan Anthony Crow (Cassandra) of Sutton, West Virginia, and Alex Harvey Franklin Patterson of Canton, Ohio. His grandchildren, Bentley, Bailey, Easton, and Lillian, brought joy to his life, evidenced by the light of his smile in their presence.

Denzil is survived by his nine elder siblings, Roy "Dana" Patterson (Becky), LaDonna L. Kehoe (Tom), John P. Patterson, Joyce L. Blanton (Terry), Clarke D. Patterson, Katherine "Kathy" D. Patterson, Dawn D. "Dee Dee" Herron, Sherry J. Moats (Steve), and Sheryl J. Stewart (Friday). He also leaves behind his many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will carry his memory in their hearts.

Denzil held significant roles in the lives of many as a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and, of course, friend. He maintained skills in carpentry, engine mechanics and was adept in the operation of heavy machinery. Thanks to his practical abilities and strong work ethic, Denzil’s hands built many of the roads and facilities we enjoy today in South Carolina. Along with his loved ones, they continue to live on in his absence.

Denzil loved his friends and family unconditionally and was eager to lend his skills to anyone in need. Always a giver, he freely offered his time to friends and loved ones, assisting both in their lives and in the completion of their own projects, which also survive beyond Denzil. As we resume our heavenly journeys, we feel his presence in the many things built by Denzil’s hands and in his many acts of kindness that live on in our hearts.

Our family invites all who loved Denzil to a celebration of his life at our family home on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm. We extend this offer to anyone who wishes to pay final respects to Denzil and his memory and to his loving family, who persevere in his absence. This will be an informal service, and all are welcomed. Kindness, laughter, and joyous memories of Denzil and his life are appreciated. Food, gifts, and loving words are welcomed but not required.

Should you plan to join us in this celebration of our brother’s life, our family home address is 1834 Old Womans Run Road, Sutton, West Virginia 26601. Thank you for your presence, and may God continue to walk with you and yours on this day and forever onward.
