Obituary of Irvin List, Jr.

Irvin List Jr., 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday March 8, 2023, at his home in Lexington, SC. Born on June 23, 1931, to Dorothy May List and Irvin List Sr., Irv and his sisters loved sailing and fishing in Long Island Sound. He loved the ocean like his sea captain father and grandfather. He loved traveling, boating, being in the mountains or at the beach, and working in the yard. After graduating from Port Washington Senior High, he attended the University of Houston. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, and after his Honorable Discharge, he worked in sales. He was President of Hillsboro Box Company and Tampa Corrugated Carton. Irv enjoyed sketching with pen and ink and won awards when he entered art contests. He was an entrepreneur starting HoneyDo Home Repair and List Enterprises. Irv enjoyed being involved in the community and was a member of Krewe of Venus and Palma Ceia Country Club (Tampa), Parkview Baptist Church (Lake City), and he volunteered with Young Life (Tampa).

Irv lived a great life: he served his country, achieved success in business, and enjoyed time with friends and family. As a cancer survivor, his life was hard at times, but he always persevered and faced challenges with a quiet strength and faith. He would share life experiences with family and friends, and we always loved listening to his stories and wisdom.  God knew that he was tired and the hills too hard to climb, so He gently closed his weary eyes and whispered, “Peace be Thine.”

Irv was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Marilyn Griffis and Linda List; grandson, Samuel Posey, and his precious dog, Muffin. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dorothy Linebaugh List of Lexington, SC; his children, Lydia List, Thomas David List (Melissa), Cheryl Lynne Rex (Mark), Melvin B. List (Heather), Allaire S. Posey (Mark), Susan S. Kennedy (Brian);  grandchildren, Tanya Tsoutsos (Hector), Heather Sauer (Ryan), Sara Flowers (Nick), Brandon Rex, Nathaniel Posey, Jonathan Posey, Benjamin Posey, Emily Posey, Carter List; great-grandchildren, Taylor Tsoutsos, Lily Mae Castaneda, Noah Castaneda, Adam Sauer, Mark Sauer, Jack Sauer,  Noah Flowers, Emma Flowers, and Olivia Flowers.

There will be a graveside service at Fort Jackson National Cemetary, Columbia, SC, to be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions in Irv's name may be made to Parkview Baptist Church, 268 NW Lake Jeffery Rd., Lake City, FL 32055.
