Obituary of Billy Junior Matthews

Billy Junior Matthews, 85, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away February 13, 2023 at his residence in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on January 15, 1938 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Burlan and Minnie (McKenzie) Matthews .

Billy worked in the automotive supply industry for his entire adult life. He enjoyed taking care of his customers and providing service they could count on. When Billy was not working, he enjoyed spending time with family. One of his favorite things to do was take the grandchildren to NASCAR races. His race enthusiasm did not stop with NASCAR; he followed many drag racing teams as his company sponsored many events. On the days he was not enjoying his family, he would spend quiet and thoughtful hours on the golf course. Billy would spend as much time in the outdoors that he could. Raking leaves and mowing the yard was time of peace for him. His kind and generous nature will be missed my those he loved and those that loved him.

Billy is survived by; his daughter, Teresa Lynn Matthews Kirby, grandchildren; Lee Kirby, (Lindsey), Amanda Hawthorne (Travis), Matthew Kirby, (Celia Bader), Jake Kirby and great-grandchildren; Kyleigh, Jarrod Jr, Olivia, Paisley, Carson, Cash, Greyson, Dawson, Noah and Will. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Lois Miller (Olin), and many nieces, nephews and family members to treasure his memory.

He was preceded in death by his lifetime soulmate of 40 years, Alice Dean Wilson, and two brothers, Lee Olin Matthews and Bobby A Matthews.
