Obituary of Michael De Rushing

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael De Rushing announces that he passed away on February 3, 2023.

Michael was born on August 21, 1949 in Columbia, South Carolina to Deweuild (Dill) and Dorothy (Dot) Rushing. He graduated from Blythewood High School in 1968. Michael was drafted into the military before he was able to go to the University of South Carolina on a basketball scholarship. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 until 1974 and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Michael had a few different careers over his lifetime including Anchor Continental, Hughes Aircraft. He then retired from the U. S. Post Office in Blythewood where he served as a mail carrier for many years.

His first love was music, playing his guitar and songwriting. He was a member of the praise band at Trinity Methodist Church in Blythewood for many years. He was also a member and mentor for many years in the local Alcoholics Anonymous Chapter. He had many friends who loved him very much and will miss all that he brought to the community. The world was a kinder place because of him.

He is survived by his loving sister, Judy Rushing Pinckney (David), nieces Caroline Pinckney, Elizabeth Thomson (John) and a nephew D. Harrison Pinckney (Amy), 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews. He will be missed by all of his family as well as his beautiful cat, Lexi. He is joined in death with his mother, Dorothy Rushing and father, Dill Rushing.

A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 3:00 p.m
