Obituary of Deborah Ann Dagle

Deborah Ann Dagle, of Columbia SC, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend died peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2023 at her home in the Harbison neighborhood after a long illness. She is survived and will be sorely missed by her loving parents, Robert A. and Elinor W. Dagle of Hilton Head SC, sister, Stacey Dagle and her partner, Carol Roof, of Columbia, SC, sister, Linda Chmar and brother-in-law Tod Chmar, niece, Kyle Chmar and nephews, Ian (wife Liz) and Noah Chmar of Atlanta, GA and Highlands, NC.

‘Debbie’ was born in Waynesboro Va., June,15, 1960, and went on to graduate from May River Academy High School in Bluffton, SC and the University of South Carolina in Columbia with a degree in Hospitality Management. She enjoyed a 20-year career in the hospitality field in Columbia and then became the manager of Advantage Self Storage and Truck Rental, a family-owned business on Atlas Road. She held this position until Advantage was sold in 2016.

Before retiring in the fall of 2022, Debbie worked for Penske Truck Rental at its regional hub in Columbia.

Deb loved to travel with her family and visited China, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, many national parks and cruised the Great Lakes and the US Maine coast. Debbie was an avid lighthouse collector and researcher and visited many lighthouse sites on her travels. As an Airbnb hostess, she decorated her rental space with a lighthouse theme.

She loved playing cards, word and board games, attending USC football and baseball games, collecting shot glasses, and was a super ‘pet mom’ to her three golden retrievers owned and adored successively over the years: TJ, Max and Tucker.

Debbie was a gift to all she met: kind, gentle and empathetic, a great addition to any gathering or adventure where she consistently contributed and worked hard. Deb’s keen intellect, sharp memory and wry sense of humor were most evident during conversations about current events and stories involving family history.

Our hearts are heavy with Deb now gone from our physical world. We wish her the highest and best journey as her soul enters God’s spiritual realm, where she will be welcomed by her maternal and paternal grandparents who predeceased her.

Debbie, we love you, we will always remember you, and cherish the times we were blessed with your presence. We wish you eternal peace, Jesus’s love and God’s grace.

Deb’s most recent church home was the McGregor Presbyterian Church, where her ashes will be scattered in the Memorial Garden on a date to be determined.
