Obituary of Hilda Ray Freeman
Hilda Ray Freeman, age 79, passed away on October 10, 2021, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 25, 1942, in Columbia, SC to George and Juanita Ray.
Hilda was a loving wife to John “Rooster” Freeman; mother to Stephen “Butch” Lewis and Gary Lewis; grandmother to McKenzie, Sophie, Clara, and Mac; sister to Elaine Estes, Pam Sloan and Anna Ray. She is proceeded in death by her parents and twin siblings, Lynda “Buck” Ray and Brenda “Sis” Micheaux.
As a determined single mom, Hilda raised Butch and Gary with love, discipline, and hard work. She worked two jobs while making time for baseball, football, and wrestling practice and competitions for the boys. Hilda and Rooster’s partnership lasted 38 years where they enjoyed their dogs, cats, and goats! Never one to turn away a furry creature, they seemed to always have room for another. She loved to grow flowers, tending her garden and cherished phone calls and visits from family and friends.
The family and a few close friends gathered to reminisce and fellowship in honor of Hilda at the Saluda Shoals Park on Sunday October 24, 2021. Hilda will be missed by all who knew her and cherished forever by her family and friends.
