Obituary of Larry Ernest Petersen

Larry Ernest Petersen (Big Buddy), 73, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2021.

Larry was born to parents Ernest and Ella (Stoltenborg) Petersen on February 28, 1948. Larry graduated from Lane Technical and received a degree in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University.

Larry is survived by his partner Cheryl Kroa, his younger sister Lora Wright, his daughters Janna Weaver, Erin MacDonald, Elisabeth Comerford and grandchildren Shelby, Darby, and Killian MacDonald.

Larry was known for his love of family, friends and fishing. Larry always had something kind to say about his younger sister and was quick to share a laugh coupled with a good joke with his daughters. He enjoyed a good scary movie after the Sunday Night Special. That was always a fantastic opportunity for a fright before bed. As a member of the Elks Lodge in Casa Grande Valley, Arizona, he was known for his warm smile and a personality that brightened the day for everyone around him. He enjoyed having a cigar with his friends at the Maduro Room while drinking cold Buds. He would wear his Sunday best to go fishing on Doo Dah, his boat. But he hated to burn day light while waiting for the big catch. Always strong in his faith and a love for the American way, Larry was quiet with his problems, but willing to lend an ear. Larry meant well and always left the room not knowing a stranger. Places that he frequented will be a bit quieter without him; however, knowing he is with God is a great comfort.

If you would like to help celebrate Larry Petersen’s life please donate to the Tempe, Arizona Elks lodge charity in lieu of flowers.
