Obituary for Michael Hunter Tatum

Michael Hunter Tatum  of Lexington , South Carolina  passed away May 18, 2021  at his residence. He was born on April 10, 1946  in Durham , North Carolina  to Charlie  and Carrie  (Riley ) Tatum . He was 75 years young.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Carrie Tatum and his youngest brother Bobby Tatum. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn "Libbie"  Tatum,  his daughters Andrea Turner (Todd) and Betina Meek (Scott), his grandchildren Kimberly Turner, Victoria Turner, Kennedy Meek, and Cohen Meek, and his siblings Linwood Tatum (Jodie), Sydney Tatum (Jackie), Thomas Tatum (Deborah), and Donna Clapp (Edward). He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and other friends and family.

After an honorable discharge from the Air Force and Air National Guard, Michael spent 30 plus years and 4 million miles crisscrossing the south east for Safety Kleen Corp. When he wasn't in his 18 wheeler you could find him on the golf course or the bowling alley, at church or a Gamecock football game. He and Libbie spent a dozen years living abroad, experiencing multiple new cultures and countries while Libbie taught school for the Department of Defense. Upon retiring, they moved back home to enjoy their family. Michael recently began a battle with urethral cancer that rapidly spread throughout his body and eventually took his life. While his family and friends are missing him and grieving his passing, we know he is at home with our Lord Jesus Christ. Michael was a loved husband, daddy, papaw, brother and friend. He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. His heart was so kind and his arms were always open to welcome you with a hug.
