Obituary of Jose R. Diaz

Jose R. Diaz, age 82 of Union City, New Jersey and Blythewood, South Carolina, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 surrounded by his wife, daughters and daughter-in-law at home. Born in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico on January 2, 1938, Jose was the son of Rafael Diaz and Ramona Mercado.

In addition to his mother Ramona (106 years old), he is survived by his wife Florence, daughters; Jeannette and Sandy Diaz, his sisters; Aida and Milagros. In addition to being a father and husband, Jose was an amazing Uncle and Grandfather.

He served in the United States Army National Guard for 17 years and in the Merchant Marines. One of his favorite Merchant Marine memories was being able to visit his daughter, Sandy, while she was stationed in Korea. Jose also spent 15 years driving a bus for the New Jersey Transit Department.

Family and friends will always smile at memories of him enjoying music, dancing, and his love for the New York Yankees. Jose was loved by all and will be missed!
