Obituary of Russell Arthur Cunningham

Russell Arthur Cunningham, 64, of Gaston, South Carolina (formally of Mt. Pleasant, PA) passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on September 7, 2020. He was born on October 8, 1955 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

Russell graduated high school from Mt. Pleasant Area Junior/Senior High School in 1973. After high school, he joined the US Army. Later, during his physical while preparing for Vietnam, doctor’s discovered his heart condition and he was honorably discharged. He then enrolled at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and graduated in 1993. He worked with various airline companies up until his retirement in 2016.

He was a very loving, caring father who was very proud of his children. He was the kindest friend anyone could ever ask for and could always make anyone laugh. His smile could brighten any room.

Russell was the son of the late Walter and Bettejean (Daniels) Cunningham. He is survived by his loving family; his children, Christopher, Katie and Shane Cunningham of Gaston, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sisters;  Jodi (Cunningham) Swann of Killeen, Texas, Paula (Cunningham) Benish of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Cheryl Febinger of Scottsdale, Pennsylvania, Dawn Brown of Jacksonville, Florida and brother; Jeffery Cunningham of Scottsdale, Pennsylvania, several nieces and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russell is preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd and Jean (Firmstone) Daniels and brother Mark Cunningham.

A private memorial was held for close friends and family.
