Obituary of Jon Sherwood Nelson

Jon Sherwood Nelson, 75, died December 14, 2022. He was born June 16, 1947, in Chicago, IL and held a PhD in geophysics, from the Colorado School of Mines, a Masters in Geology, University of Washington and a BS from Michigan State University. His first job was as a field geologist for Exxon Mobil in Colorado and Wyoming followed by work for Phillips 66 out of Houston. His specialty was finding oil when other geologists had failed. His methodology was based on his childhood successes in the Battleship game using triangulation, a method suggested by his father.

Jon is survived by his brother, James and his nieces Judith and Kathryn and nephews Paul and David P. and David M.
