Obituary of Yuk Lin Wong

Yuk Lin Wong was born in Hong Kong. She married at 19 years of age and left her village of Sai Kung to move to NYC. She knew him for only days, as the marriage was arranged. Though difficult, things did not work out and she did the best thing for herself and her children by leaving. Her new family disowned her after the divorce. At the time, her children were 6, 3, and 1 year old twins. At 25 with only a 2nd grade education, she did the best she could by herself, despite language barriers. If you truly knew her, you would know a person of many sacrifices and extremely hard working. Like most, she preferred easy... but life had other plans. She was no longer a victim of domestic violence with the help from her concerned neighbors. Her neighbors took her and the children to church with them.  Eventually, this is where she learned English to become a homecare aide for the elderly. Throughout her life, at times of trouble, it was God who showed up to help.

One of the things that worried her children most was making sure when the time came, to honor her by finding her the best place to rest. So, it was difficult to find out that she could not be put to rest with her birth family, nor could she be put to rest with family that passed before her here in the states. Although this is what she was accustomed to, she always stood out from the crowd.  She stood out all her life, because adapting was not easy for her... but she adjusted as needed. A great deal can be learned in combing through her life, that it is not where you come from that is important though it helped shape us, but rather where we are going and the seeds you plant along the way. She was very distressed before she came to visit her children in SC. And as soon as she left the city, she instantly became peacefully calm. Thinking of her life and what she found that brought her closer to home, we are assured she will be resting exactly where she belongs.

She had 4 children; Sai Yee (Irene) and Sau Or Cheng (deceased), Ann(ie) and Rory Bailey, Alex Li and Petra Williams (deceased), Bryan Li and Winnie Sung, and 8 grandchildren; Julieann and Andrew Cheng, Christian Li, Mathew, Jordan, and Lucas Sung, Liam and Caleb Bailey.  As Liam says to paw paw (maternal grandmother) in Cantonese, 'joy geen'... see you again (is not a goodbye). RIP (8/1/52 – 10/28/22)
