Obituary of Laura Meeks Jay Hynes

Mrs. Laura Meeks Jay Hynes, 83, of Aiken, SC, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Hynes was born in Greenville, SC, and moved to Warrenville as a young girl when her father became the pastor of the Warrenville Church of God. She has maintained her membership at this church for the past 68 years and glorified the Lord with her beautiful singing voice, served with the ladies ministry, maintained her heart for missions and continually ministered to the church preachers and their families. She truly loved her church. She was a nurse for Eugene McManus for 16 years where she was known as Mrs. Jay. She retired from Mattie C. Hall of Aiken after 15 years. Mrs. Hynes was the beloved wife of the late James E. Hynes. She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Silas Meeks and Ruth Kirk Meeks and her two sisters Mary Ballenger of Travelers Rest, SC, and Sarah Meeks of Raleigh, NC. She is survived by: two sons Roger (Donna) Jay of Georgetown, TX, and Dennis Jay of Augusta, GA; two daughters Marlene (Lewis) Parker of Graniteville, SC, and Laurie J. Balbag of New Ellenton, SC; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her brother Dr. Steven Meeks of Sumter, SC; and her first husband James (Roma) Jay. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at Warrenville Church of God. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the building fund at Warrenville Church of God. Special thanks to Agape Hospice for the unconditional love, support and encouragement over the past several weeks. Counting her blessings one by one, Mrs. Hynes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved and believed in her Blessed Assurance.
