Obituary of Troy Gene Englebert

Troy Gene Englebert

Troy Gene Englebert, age 84, of Columbia, S.C. died August 30, 2019.  Mr. Englebert is survived by his daughter Rhonda Renee (Englebert) Quick, and granddaughters Lauren Amanda and Taylor Elaine Quick, all of Columbia, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.  Mr. Englebert is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Shipp Englebert, parents William Neil and Jettie May Englebert and siblings Gladys (Rudolph) Genovese, Opal (William) Petry, William Englebert, Jr., Charles (Elizabeth) Englebert, Seldon Englebert, and Franklin (Aline) Englebert as well as three nephews.

Mr. Englebert was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, April 26, 1935.  He graduated from Holt High School in 1953 and did some college at the University of Alabama.  After marrying in 1957, Mr. Englebert lived in California, Illinois, Connecticut, Alabama, South Carolina, and Florida before finally retiring back to South Carolina.  He worked in commercial industry management in companies such as Lien Chemical, and Szabo Foods, as well as commercial cleaning companies Service Master, Colonial, and Royal.

After retirement, Mr. Englebert enjoyed reading several newspapers a day as well as bestselling novels.  He loved daily phone calls to his sisters and brothers, Alabama football, horse racing and watching Jeopardy.   When his granddaughters were young, he took them on walks to find magical creatures and made middle-of-the-night runs for sodas and candy bars. The family pets brought him comfort during his long battle with heart disease.

The family would like to thank Mr. Englebert’s doctors and their staffs.

There will be no visitation or memorial service at this time.  A memorial will be held at a later date in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangement were made by the South Carolina Cremation Society.
