Obituary for Thelma Virginia Chipman
Thelma Virginia Chipman, 78, of Lexington, South Carolina, went peacefully to be with her Lord on May 7, 2019, surrounded by her family in Lexington, South Carolina. She was born on July 15, 1940 in Marshall, Virginia, to the late Ira and Estelle (Fletcher) Kerns.
Thelma had a long career working in banking that began one block from the White House at National Savings and Trust Company. Thelma was a wonderful wife and loving mother. Among her greatest joys were spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She always loved having people in her home for delicious home-cooked meals. She delighted in decorating her home for the various seasons and loved celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends. Thelma had a special gift for making everyone feel loved and welcomed. Her faith in Jesus was beautifully expressed through her encouragement and prayers for others. She was greatly loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
Thelma leaves behind her devoted husband Darrell C. Chipman of 44 years, brother Johnny Ray (Irene) Kerns, daughters Patty Ellisor, Mischel (Kevin) Zeger and Tania (Jason) Brower, grandchildren Michael (Dawn) Chipman, Nicole Chipman, Christopher (Laura) Graham, Garrett (Jessica) Graham, Luke, Ethan and Liam Brower, as well as her many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Lorraine Graham, sister Nancy Brock, brother Sonny Kerns and sister Joanne Anderson.
The family will receive friends at Lexington Baptist Church Chapel (building to the right of the main sanctuary) on Saturday May 18th from 10 am to 11 am, 308 E Main St, Lexington, SC 29072. The memorial service will begin at 11 am with Pastor Mike Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington Baptist Church Missions.
