Obituary of Kathryn Hutchinson McCormick

After a full life, dedicated to the service to others, Kathryn Hutchinson McCormick passed on July 31, 2022 in Columbia, SC. Kathryn was born March 15, 1924, in Strawberry Point, Iowa to Roberta Weaver and Arthur Hutchinson.

Kathryn lived a life filled with joyous moments. She found many of these as a devoted and long-standing member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Shandon, active in Altar Guild, St. Bridget’s Guild, Episcopal Church Women, Outreach Committee and as a Vestry Member and many church activities.

She loved music and professed rightly she could not carry a tune; but that did not stop her from being an enthusiastic audience to many types of music from opera, show tunes to classical music. She loved to read and was an active member of several book clubs, always attended the South Carolina Book Festival and enjoyed participating in lively book discussions. She loved poetry and could recite entire poems from memory.

Kathryn had a powerful sense of service to others and was always ready with a helping hand and kind word. She would tell her children when they were discouraged or bored, “Find a way to help others and you will feel better.”

She is survived and remembered by:

Brother: Charles Anderson Weaver (Anne) of Norfolk, VA; Daughter: Kathryn Murray of Columbia, SC; Sons: John McCormick (Linda) of St. Paul, MN; Kevin McCormick (Susan) of Tyrone, GA; Patrick McCormick (Renee) of Lexington, SC, Grandchildren: Kristoffer Murray (Emily) of New Orleans, LA; Eric Reichow (Jessica) of St. Paul, MN; Brynn Reichow of St. Paul, MN; Jennifer McCormick of Columbia, SC; Sean McCormick of Durham, NC; Ryan McCormick of Chicago, IL; Dylan McCormick of Austin, TX; and five great grandchildren.

Kathryn held that angels walked among us and strived to be one. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Wildewood Downs Assisted Living for the compassion and care they gave Kathryn.
