Obituary of Evelyn McColskey Sanders

Ms. Evelyn (Mona) McColskey Sanders, age 75, departed earth on June 21, 2022, to tend her garden in heaven. Evelyn grew up in the Macedonia Community of Evergreen, NC, the daughter of the late James McColskey and Grace Britt McColskey. Evelyn was proudly one of six sisters, the “McColskey girls.” As an adult, Evelyn resided in Lexington, SC, where her garden drew the admiration of friends, family, and neighbors. Evelyn had the hands of a master gardener but also those of a fine seamstress, a gift showered on those she loved.

Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Monica O’Cain and her husband, Laird O’Cain, Kimberly Christ and her husband Robert Christ, and four sisters, Elaine Tyler of Columbia, SC, Mary Lou Brown of Concord, NC, Gladys Osborne of Florence, SC, and Rose Krantz of Lexington, SC, and her grandchildren, Lawton Sanders O’Cain, Susannah Christ, and Caroline Christ. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents James and Grace McColskey, and sister Juanita M. Strickland of Evergreen, NC.

A graveside memorial is scheduled for 11 am on July 16, 2022, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 100 Macedonia Church Rd, in her hometown of Evergreen, NC.
