Obituary of Linda S Ewing

Linda S. Ewing, age 74 always said if she had a tombstone she wanted it to read:

She Lived. She Tried. She Died.

Linda was born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, daughter of late Barton Haywood and Ruth Sasser Sitterson. In the late 1970’s she made her house her home in Florence, South Carolina. On April 15, after multiple hospital and rehab visits during the year, she passed away at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, South Carolina.

Linda’s formal education included Medical University of South Carolina, Francis Marion University and many ongoing professional training and certifications to continue her career as a Cytotechnologist. When she was not employed in Florence, she worked for laboratories in South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio, with a short stint in Maine, while retaining her home in Florence on the weekends.

She was a well read, strong, kind and generous woman with a heart of gold. She never met a stranger and with her adventurous spirit was always up for a road trip. At her house, she told friends to “just sit and visit”. She did not sugarcoat things, she’d tell you like it was. If she did not like something, she’d tell you. If she did not want to do something, she would not. She laughed, enjoyed situational humor and enjoyed retelling the stories and punchlines even more. She left her favorite holiday decorations out all year. Birthday celebrations lasted at least a week. She was a lover of animals, especially cats, and usually had one, two or more most times through the years. She had a childlike joy in the simple pleasures in life. She enjoyed using google, watching TV, listening to music, and admiring the looks of her iPhone – although she never quite learned how to use it, saying, “I like my phone. It sure is pretty”. She enjoyed visiting with friends for hours playing card games, Rummy and Spades. Each year, she looked forward to watching the Super Bowl, World Series, Kentucky Derby, Boston Pops, the Macy’s Day Parade and the ball drop at Times Square. She enjoyed life, loved her family and was a proud mother and grandmother, and she was a faithful friend.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Valerie Ewing White, and her husband, Robert, and Grandema (pronounced grand-ee-ma) to grandsons Parker and Payton of Chapin, SC; brother James Sitterson and his wife Delores of Greenville, SC; and extended family, nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition to her parents, Linda was pre-deceased by son Richard Wade Ewing of Florence, SC, and sister Elizabeth Ann Hill and brother-in-law Tom S. Hill of Elkhart, IN.

The family will greet family and friends on Saturday, April 30 at The Cottage by Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. to celebrate the life of Linda.
