Obituary of Phillip Raymond Anderson
Phillip “Phil” Raymond Anderson, 74 years old, of Newberry, SC went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2022.
Phil was born on January 4, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio to Homer Raymond Anderson and Bettilee Shrewsbury. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 52 years – Ruby G. Anderson; his daughter Kathleen Marie Anderson; one grandchild, Emily Christina Burgess; and a little cat named Abby. He is now reunited with his late daughter, Christina Louise Anderson.
Phil loved his country and was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served in the US Army from 1965-1968. He worked on tanks in the Army and was a sharpshooter with a rifle. He earned 2 bronze service stars, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He used the skills the Army taught him to work in the automotive industry as a mechanic and later as a shop foreman. He gave 40 years to the automotive industry, primarily the Ford Corporation.
He will be forever missed and remembered as a loving Husband, Dad and Granddaddy who enjoyed all genres of music, gardening, bird watching, the country & hiking. He also liked to watch a good college football game, especially if it included Clemson or Ohio State…once a Buckeye always a Buckeye!
If the dreaded disease of dementia could have been cured by sheer will and determination, Phil would have beaten this disease. He met every challenge in this way. He loved life and most of all, his family. His family knows without a shadow of a doubt that they were loved.
A celebration of life will be held for the family at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, SC, with full military honors on March 28, 2022, at 14:00 hours.
South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family. Family and friends may sign the online guest book by clicking on the "tribute wall" tab above.
