Obituary of George Bilton Lawson, III

George Bilton Lawson III, (79), of Lexington, South Carolina passed away on March 21, 2023. 

George was born to George B. Lawson Jr. and Helen Miley Lawson on May 2, 1943 in Roanoke, Virginia. George proudly served in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. George was an entrepreneur who owned many different business ventures throughout his life including a successful Culligan water softening dealership in Christiansburg, Virginia. George also assisted his wife Virginia with setting up her sewing business, Stitches By Virginia Lawson. George would later go on to own a cable repair and service business as well as several flea market shops.

George is survived by his wife, Virginia Lewis Lawson, son, George B. Lawson IV, daughter-in-law, Donna Marie Lawson and two grandchildren, Mary Catherine "Catie" Hooker and Cecily Marie Lawson. He is also survived by his sister, Hayward Mitchell. George was predeceased by his daughter, Cecily Virginia Lewis Lawson.

Aside from his business ventures, George was also very fond of his many hobbies over the years including hiking the family property on Tinker Mountain in Roanoke, ham radios, boating, remote control airplanes and sailboats, model trains and restoring his MGA sports cars. George was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.
