Obituary of Richard David Harless

Richard David Harless passed away January 25, 2023 at his home in Lexington, SC after a year-long illness. He was born December 8, 1941 to Ella Mae and Rupert Boyd Harless of Montcoal, West Virginia.

David graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1962. He then served in the U.S. Army Corp - spending time in Frankfurt, Germany. After his military service, David attended college and became a certified mine electrician. In 1977, David and his family moved to Craig, Colorado and lived there for 30 years. David retired as a mine electrician from Peabody Coal in 2004. After moving to South Carolina in 2007, he worked part-time for ten years at Saluda Shoals Park at The River Center. His favorite past times were reading and spending time with his family and friends, especially at the beach. He loved traveling to new places and enjoyed many cruises with his family and friends. David's Christian faith was very important to him and he was a faithful member of Northwood Baptist Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 60+ years, Sue Ann - daughters, Melissa Ann Langford (Mark) and Minde Sue Johnson (Donald) - grandson, Elijah David - son, Mark Carl (Jennifer) - granddaughter, Emma Hope - grandson, Jacob Cole and sister, Connie Harless. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph Wayne.

A memorial service will be announced later in the spring to allow family and friends to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so can make a donation to the Lucky Fin Project, an organization that helps children with a limb difference.

South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family. Family and friends may sign the online guest book by clicking on the “Tribute Wall” tab above.
