Obituary of Joseph Joe Cooper

It is with our family’s greatest sorrow that we announce that the love of all of our lives, Joseph D. Cooper (78) went to be with his Lord and Father on August 13, 2018. Joseph (Joe) was born February 11, 1940 in Fairmont, WV to Ira and Etta (Barb) Cooper. Growing up Joe worked with his father on their cattle farm. Joe was saved, by God’s redeeming grace in 1965 and was shortly thereafter called to the ministry. Soon after, Joe married the love of his life Judith Goggin on October 8, 1966 and began attending college at Northeast Bible Institute (now, Valley Forge Christian College), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theology and later became an ordained minister for the Assemblies of God. Joe ministered throughout the many years of his life in: Morgantown Outstation, WV (1965-1966), Elkins Assembly of God in Elkins, MD (1969-1971), Fleetwood Assembly of God (1971-1976) in Fleetwood, PA; Bedford Assembly of God (Village Church) (1976-1983) Bedford, PA; First Assembly of God (1983-1986) Beaver Falls, PA ; Lexington Assembly of God ( 1987-1991) Lexington, SC; Joe and his wife, Judith (Goggin) Cooper served in Prison Ministries at the Broad River Correctional Facilities and then as the Music Ministers at Aiken First Assembly of God for 4 years. Joe was a faithful servant of the Lord. He had a kind and loving soul, and his generosity of spirit was well known by his friends, family, and many others whom he helped with his time, money, mechanical, and carpentering abilities. He also was known to avidly share his Faith in God and his wisdom about how to live a happy and fulfilling life by having Faith in God’s plan. Lastly, most people who knew him knew him as quite the comedian, with his favorite jokes and stories making their rounds among his friends and family. Surviving family members include his beloved wife, Judy, of 51 years, his children, Jeanna Cooper, Jonathan Cooper and wife Michelle (Speers) Cooper, grandson Christopher Speers, and son Joel Ashby-Cooper and husband, Matt Ashby-Cooper.
