I only just heard the news of Nancy's passing. When I was small, Nancy was my mom's best friend. Much of my childhood was spent over at the Johnston's house, both when Nancy took care of me during the weekdays when my mom went back to work, as well as lots of weekend socializing. I remember how much she and my mom loved to get creative in the kitchen, whether it was making huge batches of wantons or fresh pasta, or making a dozen varieties of Christmas cookies to share with friends. I loved Nancy. She was the other mom in my life, and it was tough for me when the Johnstons moved from IL to the East Coast, especially since we had lost my mom shortly before that. I have so many happy memories of Nancy and her family... lots of music and laughter, Mike the dog, the mulberry tree, the blue flowered wallpaper in the kitchen, Uncle Dale's pipe, neighborhood walks with little Dale and Debbie (my cool big kid friends/babysitters), and Nancy's long hair tied back in a ponytail. I miss her laugh. Even though I haven't spoken with Nancy in a very long time, she is in my heart and she will be missed. Sending love and comfort to Big Dale, Debbie, and Little Dale, as well as all of your extended families.

What a great pictures of our great friend. So many wonderful times we had together. The laughs and sometimes the tears....and she was always there for us when we most needed it.
Her passion for baseball was without question and her memories and stories of her Dad, a former professional baseball player were wonderful.
Her love for her children, her grandchildren and for Dale was boundless and without reservation.
We've lost a true friend and the world has lost a gentle and caring soul. We will miss you beyond words.
All our love,
Paul and Maryellen
