Obituary of James Buckman Johnson

James Buchman Johnson James “Jim” Johnson, passed away at his home in Moss Creek on Tuesday, July 11. He would have turned 84 on Monday, July 16. He was born in 1934 in Shelbyville, Kentucky to Andrew and Nellie Johnson and attended Crestwood HS in KY. He attended Centre college on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1956. His first job was at IBM in Lexington, Kentucky. In 1959, he was commissioned into the US Secret Service. He served 27 years in the Secret Service working under seven US Presidents. Jim often said he could not believe that a farm boy from KY would go on to work for seven presidents and he never regretted working for the government and giving up other opportunities in the private sector to make more money. Jim retired in 1986 and moved to Moss Creek with his wife Carole Johnson in 1990. He was an avid golfer, loved horse racing and was a huge Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. Jim’s friends and family will miss him dearly. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Moss Creek Club House, on Sunday July 15th from 3 PM to 5 PM. Survivors include Larry & Amy Johnson, Sherrie & Mike Hickman, Brad & Shelly Johnson, Eric & Yvette Bauder & 5 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren.
