Obituary for Wynona Yuvonne Paul

Wynona Yuvonne Paul, 63, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away January 14, 2022 at her home in Lexington, South Carolina. She was born on January 10, 1959 in Newport, Rhode Island to the late David and Mary (Sublett) Walton.

Yuvonne is survived by her husband of 44 years, Andy Paul, their daughter Daphne Brewton (husband Jerry), currently stationed in Anchorage, AK with the US Air Force; sons Andrew Paul (wife Lisa) of Lexington, SC; Joseph Paul (wife Lindsay) of Hopewell, VA; and Anthony Paul currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan with the US Marine Corps. Yuvonne was blessed to have and is survived by 10 grandchildren, Aubrey, Jodie, Ty, Jonathan, Corbin, Jamin, Cayson, Keegan, Kallen and Shiloh. Yuvonne is also survived by her brother, David Walton (wife Teresa) of Vinton, VA, numerous nephews and nieces, and an abundance of friends.

Yuvonne was born on January 10, 1959 in Providence, RI while her parents were stationed there as her father served in the US Navy. The family moved to Hopewell, VA where she was raised for her childhood and teen years. In 1976 she met Andy and they were married June 18, 1977. The couple was blessed with their firstborn daughter (Daphne) and then a son (Andrew) while they lived in the Hopewell and Prince George area. Yuvonne was a devoted mother who served the Lord and poured her life into her husband and children. She held various positions in the Women’s Ministry of her home church, West End Presbyterian in Hopewell, VA and was also a Bible teacher.

When her husband was called into vocational Christian ministry, the family moved to Columbia, SC for him to attend Columbia Bible College. While there Yuvonne home-schooled the children and was involved in outreaches in the on-campus married student housing area and at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. After battling cancer, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Andy and Yuvonne were blessed to adopt their two sons, Joseph and Anthony. When called to be a pastor’s wife, Yuvonne did so with excellence, perseverance, and love, blessing many with her gifts of encouragement and mercy serving at Bethel Independent Bible Church, Lexington, SC and then at River’s Edge Bible Church in Prince George, VA.

Even in the midst of suffering, Yuvonne would remind those with whom she had contact that she counted every day a gift and as a blessing from God. One of her goals in life was to point people to her Lord Jesus Christ and to give Him all the glory. She loved her husband, her children and her grandchildren with all her heart and it was always her heart’s desire to spend quality time and make special memories together…something she did so well. Those who knew her best will miss her most.

The family will celebrate Yuvonne’s life in a worship service on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 2:00pm at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 5637 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC, 29212 with Rev. Eddie Reed officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Yuvonne’s memory to the Pregnancy Support Center of the Tri-Cities, 700 S. Sycamore St, Petersburg, VA, 23803 or on their website at pregnancytricities.org.
