Obituary of Barbara Ann Williams Joiner

Mrs. Barbara Ann Joiner (Williams), age 68, beloved wife of Walter Sharkey Joiner IV, whom she affectionately called “Skipper,” passed away peacefully at her home in Aiken, SC on Thursday, June 7, 2018. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Walter Sharkey Joiner V (Heather) of Irmo, Jean Joiner Gerrald (Robert) of Lexington, and Jessica Lynn Fountain (Brandon) of Lexington; and her seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Bonnie Rackley (Joe) of Hollywood, Marilyn Whatley (Chuck) of Moncks Corner, and Stanley Williams (Holly) of Goose Creek. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Iris Williams. Barbara became a Christian at an early age and, because of her faith, found joy and purpose in her life by caring for others. A devoted wife and mother, her commitment to teaching her children in the early 1980’s made her a pioneer for homeschooling in Ohio, Michigan, and South Carolina. Barbara was a member of Grace Church of Aiken for nearly thirty years, and it was at GCA that she found many of her closest friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and all whose lives she touched in her 68 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Church of Aiken as a designated gift to support GCA’s ministries to Central African Republic (CAR). A memorial service will be held at Grace Church of Aiken on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11am. The family will receive friends at the church at 9:30am prior to the service.
